The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne from Leonardo da Vinci

Process of a ready-made, work in progress...

Part 4: The ready-made.

I came to Leonardo to investigate the profession of painter and the practice of painting at the age of contemporary art. For a nowadays painter, how is it possible to rethink his position face to the art history and the work of masters ? How to react face to the business of art organised by institutions, museums and actors of the art market ?

In his time, Marcel Duchamp made this ironic ready-made "L.H.O.O.Q." to critic and joke about the profession of painter. He used the iconic portrait of Mona Lisa to create another iconic piece of art. To support the position he holded, he just needed to use a printed copy of the Mona Lisa. No point to repeat the same act again ! To build another ready made from Leonardo's masterpiece by a real painting, brings back the practice of painting to the forefront of our preoccupations. A tribute to Leonardo and Marcel Duchamp, also a joke to the both...
